What is TMS?
TMS, or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, is a safe, effective, FDA approved treatment for depression that works at alleviating symptoms, even when other methods have failed.
While the exact cause of depression is not known, we do know that certain areas of the brain are underactive in people with severe depression.
TMS uses a targeted, pulsed magnetic field (similar to what an MRI machine uses), to stimulate these specific areas of the brain.
Safe
TMS was cleared by the FDA in 2008 as a safe and effective treatment for Major Depressive Disorder. At Advanced Psychiatry & TMS Clinic, we use a NeuroStar® device, which was the first to receive FDA approval. In 2022, NeuroStar was also approved to treat OCD.
Effective
In a recent study* of patients who received a full course of treatment with the NeuroStar® device, as many as 83% experienced marked improvement in depressive symptoms, and between 28-62% experienced full remission. We have found similar results with our patients.
Non-invasive
Unlike other treatments for depression, which can affect the entire body with a variety of side effects, TMS is a targeted therapy with minimal side effects,* so after treatment, you are free to work, drive, and go about your day.
*Some have reported temporary discomfort at the treatment site.

TMS is covered by most insurances.
At Advanced Psychiatry & TMS Clinic, we proudly partner with these and other insurance companies.
Are you or a loved one a candidate for TMS?
Have you been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder?
(or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder*)
Have you tried at least 2-4 antidepressants, but have not found them to be effective?
Have you worked with a professional therapist (talk therapy), but are still not feeling like yourself?
If you said yes to all three, and you’re ready to take the next step, contact us now to get the process started.
*Since TMS was approved to treat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder very recently, only select insurances now cover it as a treatment for OCD. Please contact us if you have questions about TMS as a treatment option for OCD. 208-202-2424
